Scam alert!!
The Government’s help of £400 with energy bills has prompted yet another scam, according to Ofgem.
The scam messages invite people to apply for the £400 “non-repayable discount” and instruct the recipient to follow a link to a fake Ofgem website to then provide personal details. It then encourages them to set up a direct debit to receive the money.
However, in fact, the help will be automatic and available to all households.
Among the fraudulent websites identified by the BBC are:
- energy-bill-online.com
- com
- rebate-ogem.com
- totalsolutions24-7.co.uk
The advice, as always, is to never respond to such emails if they ask for your details, orcontain a web link.
