How to tell if you’re effected?
One way for users to tell if their laptop is at risk is to remove the battery from the laptop and check the barcode that is present. If you barcode starts with the following:
- 6BZLU
- 6CGFK
- 6CGFQ
- 6CZMB
- 6DEMA

Then you should remove the battery and get in touch with HP for a free replacement, you will still be able to use your laptop it will just have to remain plugged into the mains.
Alternatively you can visit HP’s website and download their validation program which will let you know if your battery needs to be replaced.
What to do next?
If your battery if on the list or if the validation program confirms that it is you should head over to HP’s website, and proceed with the validation process which will enable you to claim a free replacement. It is also worth mentioning that if on the previous recall you did not require a replacement that you check again as additional codes have been added to the faulty list. If however your battery was replaced in the initial 41,000 strong recall then you will not require another replacement.
